How Do You Measure Elastic For A Round Tablecloth

If you're planning on making a round tablecloth with elastic, you'll need to know how to measure the fabric and elastic correctly. Here are the steps that you need to follow:

Step 1: Measure the diameter of your table

To do this, use a measuring tape to measure the distance across the center of the table, from one edge to the other. This will give you the diameter of your table.

Step 2: Add two to four inches to the diameter

This will give you the amount of fabric that you need to cut. For example, if your table has a 48-inch diameter, you would cut a 50-52-inch circle of fabric.

Step 3: Measure the circumference of the table

To do this, wrap a measuring tape around the edge of the table. This will give you the circumference of your table.

Step 4: Multiply the circumference by 0.75

This will give you the amount of elastic that you need. For example, if your table has a 150-inch circumference, you would need 112.5 inches of elastic.

Step 5: Cut the fabric and elastic

Once you have measured the fabric and elastic, you can cut them to size. Cut the fabric into a circle and cut the elastic to the length that you calculated in Step 4.

Step 6: Sew the elastic to the fabric

To do this, place the elastic around the edge of the fabric, with the raw edges of the fabric and elastic aligned. Sew the elastic to the fabric using a zigzag stitch.

Step 7: Hem the tablecloth

Once the elastic is sewn to the fabric, you can hem the tablecloth if desired.

Tips:

If you're not sure how much elastic to use, it's better to err on the side of caution and use more. You can always trim the excess elastic later.
When sewing the elastic to the fabric, be sure to stretch the elastic as you sew. This will help to keep the tablecloth from being too tight or too loose.
