How to Sew Elastic On a Round Tablecloth

Round tablecloth
Elastic cord (1/4-inch wide or less)

Instructions:

Measure the circumference of your tablecloth. To do this, use a measuring tape or ruler to measure around the edge of the tablecloth, from one side to the other, then multiply that number by two.
Cut the elastic cord to the same length as the circumference of your tablecloth.
Fold the tablecloth in half, right sides together. Align the raw edges of the tablecloth and match up the corners.
Pin the elastic cord around the edge of the tablecloth, 1/4-inch from the raw edge. Start and stop pinning about 1 inch from the corners.
Sew around the edge of the tablecloth, 1/4-inch from the raw edge, using a zigzag stitch. Be sure to catch the elastic cord in your stitches.
Remove the pins and turn the tablecloth right side out. Press the seam allowance flat.
Your tablecloth is now finished! To use it, simply place it on your table and pull the elastic cord to tighten it around the edge of the table.

Tips:

If you're using a very thin elastic cord, you may want to double it up for added strength.
If you're not sure how long to cut the elastic cord, start with a length that is about 10% shorter than the circumference of your tablecloth. You can always cut it shorter if needed.
